Why should I clean my carpets and upholstery?
Without a doubt, the most important reason to clean your carpets is the health and wellbeing of your family, friends and clients.
Hers’s the skin-crawling stats:
- The average human sheds 1.5 million skin flakes every hour (that’s enough to feed hungry dust mites for 170 days)
- Over 100,000 dust mites can be found in 10 square feet of carpet – Their droppings and decomposing bodies cause an allergic reaction in 18-30% of people
- Carpets harbour pet hair, pollens and allergens, which is especially concerning for people suffering with asthma & eczema
- 15-30% of people are allergic to pet dander & don’t even realise it!
- Carpets harbour dirt and germs brought in from the outside
- Vacuuming a carpet only removes 80% of this dirt, so 20% still remains in your carpets
- One square inch of carpet can harbour 200,000 bacteria, which survive for long periods of time
- Even the cleanest bedroom floor has about 18 species of fungus!
But besides that…
Regular carpet cleaning helps restore the life of your carpet, by maintaining its look and lustre. That means your carpets will last longer. What’s more, it also gets rid of unpleasant smells (which you may no longer notice, but visitors undoubtedly will), helping you to keep your home smelling fresh, all year round.
How often should I clean my carpets?
To maximise the lifespan of your carpet and to remove bacteria, soil and allergens which can be harmful to you and your carpet’s fibres, carpet manufacturers recommend carpets to be cleaned once per year.
Are there any risks associated with having my carpet cleaned professionally by Ladybird?
No. Using our professional cleaning methods, we do not damage individual carpet fibres. In fact, the quicker we remove the soil or stain from your carpets, the longer they will last!
Should I vacuum before the carpet cleaner arrives?
No, that’s all part of our service. We use an industrial vacuum which is many times more powerful than a domestic vacuum, so leave the vacuuming to us (we bet you don’t get to hear that too often!)
Do you move furniture?
When necessary we will move small furnishings, and return them to their original position after cleaning. However, we do not move fragile or awkward items such as:
- Musical instruments
- Grandfather clocks
- Heavy beds
- Full china hutches
- Full bookshelves
- Entertainment centres
- Pool tables, etc
For safety reasons (both of the technician, and of your item), Ladybird technicians will not move any piece of furniture or household object that they do not feel comfortable or confident in moving.
Should I move anything, or do anything to prepare before Ladybird arrives?
Yes, please remove all knick-knacks and valuable items, clutter and breakables from areas to be cleaned.
How long will it take for my carpet or furniture to dry, and when can I walk on it?
1 to 2 hours. Once the cleaning process is finished, your carpets or upholstery will be damp to touch. You can walk on your carpet straight away, but we recommend waiting 1 hour, and limiting foot-traffic until it is completely dry (6-12 hours). WARNING: Never put rugs or mats back on carpet before they are all completely dry.
To decrease drying time, aim to keep the room temperature at 22.2 degrees celsius, and use fans to circulate the air around the cleaned carpet.
Are the products you use safe?
Yes. We use the #1 line of cleaning products in the world. This allows us to guarantee the highest quality of workmanship available. Our products are: nontoxic, safe for children and pets, biodegradable and phosphate free.
For specific first aid measures (eg, in the event that our products come into contact with eyes), contact us for more information.
Are your technicians experienced?
Yes. You can rest assured that our technicians are fully trained at the ACCI Institute and are Federal Government Certified.
Can carpet cleaning services help my allergies?
Absolutely. Having your carpet and furniture cleaned removes dust-mites and pollutants and makes for a more friendly breathing environment.
Will you remove all my stains?
This is dependant on whether your carpet has a spot or a stain:
- A spot is any foreign material (soil, liquid, etc.) that is on or around the surface of carpet fibre and is removable by standard cleaning methods
- A stain is foreign material (soil, liquid, etc.) on carpet that has penetrated or ‘soaked into’ the fibre, changing or damaging the fibre itself, and is unable to be removed by standard cleaning methods.
We endeavour to remove all carpet stains but some may be very difficult or impossible to remove.
Does cleaning your carpet make it wear out faster?
No. Quite the contrary… Dirt acts as an abrasive when trapped in your carpet or fabrics and should be removed in order to reduce wear and extend its lifespan.
Does your process restore the original feel of my carpet?
Yes, our process leaves your carpet fresh, clean, residue free and soft to touch.
Should I have a fabric protector applied after cleaning?
Yes, most carpet manufacturers recommend that you reapply protector after professional cleaning, to restore original stain resistance. Some manufacturers even require it as part of the carpet’s warranty.
My carpet is really old, should I replace it?
Replacing carpet is an expensive exercise these days, so we suggest having the carpet professionally cleaned first. It could make a world of difference to the look and feel of your old carpets, and save you a lot of money (why not take a holiday instead?!).
Which provides better indoor air quality: hardwood, or carpet?
It might surprise you to learn that carpet acts like a ‘filter’, trapping pollutants which are then removed by professional carpet cleaning. As long as a regular cleaning schedule is maintained, carpet provides much better indoor air quality than hardwood.
Will I be left with wet, soggy carpets?
No. One of the great benefits of Ladybird Carpet Care is that we use 95% less water. After we use our cotton extractor pads, carpets are only slightly damp.
